1.   Description of the Treatment Process

Sources of the raw water are the from river within the plant boundary. From these  water will be pumped and pass through clarifier and stored in the new underground clarified water storage sump. Clarified water pump will pump the clarified water to the multi grade filter (MGF). Requisite alum and polymers are added before MGF. MGF will remove the suspended particles in the water. Activated carbon filter  ( ACF ) will be connected in series with MGF to remove colour, odour, organics (if any) present in the water.

3.2              Sodium hypochlorite solution will be dosed at the inlet line to the clarified water tank for reducing the organics present in the water. This chlorination system consists of hypochlorite dosing tank and dosing pump.

3.3              Acid and antiscalant solution will be dosed at the outlet line of ACF for maintaining the pH and reducing the fouling effect present in the water respectively. This system consists of acid dosing tank and dosing pump, antiscalant dosing tank and dosing pump.

3.4              From the outlet of ACF, water will be passed through the cartridge filters for fine filtration. After fine filtration high pressure pumps will boost the pressure of the water to suit the RO membrane inlet.

3.5              In the RO membrane around 95% of the salts will get reduced and the permeate flow rate will be around 70%. RO permeate will be passed through a degasser for the removal of carbon dioxide present in the form of an acid in the permeate. Post chlorination and pH adjustment of the RO product water will be done using dosing systems containing dosing tanks and dosing pumps. Degassified water collected in the RO product water storage tank will be further softened in softener ( Na cation exchanger ). Soft water is collected in the soft water storage tank. Soft  water transfer pumps will pump the soft water to make for the auxiliary boiler.

3.6              A portion of the degassified RO water from the outlet of the feed pumps after chlorination will be sent to the potable/ service water system network.

All piping will be UPVC for raw water supply lines in accordance with ISO standards. Piping for RO water,  soft water be UPVC. High pressure lines for RO skid will be SS316. Piping for alkali and acid will be as per water treatment subcontractor. Potable water piping will be of UPVC.

The general operation of  the plant is manual

1.                   Arrangement / Layout

Filters, RO skid, Ion exchangers, chemical solution tanks and chemical dosing pumps will be located indoors. Degasser tower, RO water tank, soft water tank, bulk chemical  tanks and pumps will be located outdoors under a shed as a semi-outdoor construction
